In the past half century as Concord changed from a rural community with a few thousand residents to Contra Costa County's largest city with over 121,000 people, growth took place neighborhood by neighborhood.
As housing units were built during the city's dramatic growth from the mid 1950s to the '70s, neighborhoods took shape and formed the core of community life.
Today, the City of Concord is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the quality of life in each of these neighborhoods. The City has divided Concord into three districts (Southern, Northern and Valley). Not only does each district have its own community police station but there are Neighborhood Services specialists to assist residents in these areas with a menu of services including technical assistance, education, neighborhood clean-up projects and code enforcement services.
The City of Concord has also formed partnerships within many neighborhood organizations. The Neighborhood Partnership Program enables these neighborhood associations to join with the City to help make living in Concord all it should be.
