Concord has long encouraged proper use of its land and those of our surrounding natural resources like Mt. Diablo, Lime Ridge Open Space and the nearby California Delta. Concord's 23 parks feature over 360 acres of green/open space in the City. Markham Nature Park and Arboretum is home of Concord's community gardens.
Concord has a strong recycling program for both residents and businesses. Weekly curbside recycling at Concord homes picks up newspapers, cardboard, white and mixed paper, phone books, aluminum, tin, #1 & #2 plastic and glass containers and green waste/yard debris.
There are multiple locations around Concord that recycle used motor oil, aluminum, glass and newsprint. The City also offers free compost classes through a program with Contra Costa County.
